Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore, known simply as "CMC Vellore", was founded by Ida S. Scudder, and located in the city of Vellore in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, South India.

 ADMISSION TO THE DEGREE COURSES

The college within its afiliation to the TN Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai offers degree courses in Medicine (MBBS), Nursing (BSc), Physio-therapy (BPT), Occupational Therapy (BOT) and in Medical Laboratory Technology (BSc). NOTE: There is no NRI quota in the college. All admissions are only on the basis of merit, taken overall, in an entrance examination, other tests and interviews.

All candidates from India or abroad with qualifications other than the 'Plus Two Examination of Higher Secondary Board' of Tamilnadu State should obtain an Eligibility Certificate from the Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai  600 032, Tamilnadu, in order to be eligible to attend the interviews. Only candidates who qualify the written test will be called for the interviews.

Non-Indian nationals will have to obtain a 'No Objection Certificate' from the Government of India by applying through the Principal/Dean of the College to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, Nirman Bhavan, New Delhi - 110 001.

THE MBBS COURSE

The MBBS  course is of four and a half year's and is followed by one year of Compulsory Rotating Residential Internship. The course is taken in three stages, following a short foundation course which provides basic principles of Communication, Ethics and Problem Based Learning.  The first stage is for 12 months and covers the basic sciences of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry.  The next stage is for 18 months and includes  Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology and Forensic Medicine.

The last stage is for 24 months and covers  Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Community Medicine, General Medicine, Paediatrics, Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

There is an application fee which can be sent as a crossed demand draft, payable at Vellore to the CMC Vellore Association Account.  Application forms for the degree courses will be available from mid February of the year until around early April for the sessions begining in July. For medical post-graduate training, forms are available October to November and the program starts in March. Please check with the admission calender for details.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO THE MBBS COURSE

Christian Medical College is affiliated to the Dr. MGR Medical University. The minimum qualification for admission to the MBBS course as prescribed by the University is the Higher Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination, which is equivalent to ten  plus twoâ Higher Secondary Examination, taken after a period of 12 years of studies; the last two years of study comprising of  physics, chemistry and  Biology, with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council for Educational Research & Training, after the introduction of the 10 + 2 + 3 years educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education

A candidate for admission to medical course "must have 60% marks* in each of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Botany and Zoology taken together) and have an aggregate of 140/200 in these subjects, both at qualifying and competitive examinations and should have passed in English"(*subject to University guidelines) .

PG & HIGHER SPECIALITY COURSES

Applications are invited in October of the year for post-graduate and higher speciality (HS) courses begining the following March.

Selection to Christian Medical College Vellore is based on performance in an entrance examination, clinical and interview. The examination consists of a variety of multiple choice questions, distributed in all disciplines of Medicine.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

MBBS + 1 year internship + Medical Council Registration.  For Dip.N.B. should have passed primary examination of the National Board of Examinations, also.
