 The College is a pioneer in starting Marine Engineering as an undergraduate degree programme through the University of Madras. This college is the first engineering college in India to get approval by Director General of Shipping, Ministry of Surface Transport, Government of India to start the four year B.E. Marine Engineering course. The students after graduation, will be able to join as fifth engineers on board ship. This programme is the first of its kind in India and was started in 1998.

The Director General of Shipping has approved the 4 Year Bachelor of Engineering Course in MARINE ENGINEERING conducted by this college vide approval No. TR/A/73/2002 dated 17 June 2002. College INDOS No. - 806 Course ID - 64.

Also D G Shipping has Certified this 4 years B.E. Marine Engineering is equivalent to the 4 years Marine Engineering Degree course conducted by MERI, Kolkata vide letter No.3-TR(26)/99 dated 02 Aug 2002.


The Department is headed by Prof. S Selvaraju Ph. D., Retd. Commander - Indian Navy, has specialized in Marine Engineering. He has undergone Advanced Marine Engineering course at Institute of Armament Technology, and is a holder of MOT - First Class Certificate of Service issued by the Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India.
